Inclusive leadership skills training

In her signature workshop, TEDx speaker, trainer and author, Elena Joy, inspires her audiences to speak up and create a culture of allyship and belonging through Inclusive Leadership. Elena Joy moves her audiences to both tears and laughter as she integrates her stories of life as a Mormon mom of four who lost her marriage, her church, and her community when she came out as a lesbian, alongside actionable strategies to increase inclusion and belonging through allyship.

Through a solid foundation of Inclusive Leadership, participants will understand a deeper meaning of Allyship, whether you're trying to increase inclusivity around race, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, age, etc.  We will look at all the skills that are required to be a good ally, and we can use interactive experiences that are appropriate based on your organization’s specific needs.  In this experience, we will identify key behaviors that demonstrate allyship, and learn to speak up on behalf of one's self and members of marginalized groups while also developing a new language to apologize for causing harm.

Whether you are a seasoned leader looking to lift the people behind you, or a rising leader who wants to speak up for yourself and marginalized communities, this workshop is a perfect fit for you and organizational leaders who are ready to uplevel their allyship skills.

By the end of this workshop your audience will:

  • Identify what a lack of inclusive leadership is costing your organization with specific action steps to remedy the most common missteps.

  • Discover the four pillars of Inclusive Leadership so that you can shift your mindset and your behavior in a sustainable way.

  • Develop the highly effective skills that are needed to speak up and influence to develop a culture of allyship, while centering and elevating marginalized voices.

The event went fabulous!

I thought elena was extremely informative, open and warm during the events. Guests felt extremely comfortable asking the difficult questions. I thought elena did an incredible job creating an environment where people could be comfortable to learn and inquire.

Speak Up & Influence Multi-day Trainings

Event 1

Lean In —Queer, Dyke, and Other Words We’re Too Scared to Say (45 minutes with 15 min for Q&A)

Our language can demonstrate to clients and employees that we support the LGBTQ+ community. But sometimes, we stay silent because we don’t know the correct term to use and we’re concerned about causing offense. In this session, participants will learn about inclusive language and the actions they can take to become true allies so they can speak up without worrying about causing harm.

Speak Out —Daring Conversations for Workplace Success (90 minutes interactive)

For most people, navigating conversations where there is the possibility of disagreement or conflict is uncomfortable. Yet, shifting conversations from difficult to daring is one of the most important skills an employee can possess. Participants will develop the self-awareness and tools to avoid staying silent, ruminating, or winging high-stakes conversations.

Event 2

Lean In — Deconstructing Internalized Homophobia (45 minutes with 15 min for Q&A)

This interactive workshop uses science to identify and break down internalized homophobia—something we ALL have. The techniques participants learn to use in this workshop can also be applied to other types of unconscious bias, including racism and misogyny.

Speak Out — Communicating Boundaries in the Workplace  (90 minutes interactive)

When employees possess the mindset, confidence, and communication skills to advocate for their wellbeing, they not only feel better, statistically, they also perform better. Participants explore individual and cultural barriers to their wellness and explore how to create and articulate boundaries to get their needs met.

 Event 3

Lean In — Safe Space Dialogue (45 minutes)

This facilitated discussion allows attendees to share what they have learned and experienced since the beginning of the workshops. Participants are welcome to ask questions and share what tools and information they are choosing to take with them.

Speak Out — Workplace Allyship (90 minutes interactive)

While most organizations have policies and programs to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion, too many leaders and employees still struggle with knowing how to show up as allies for those with marginalized identities. Participants will practice communication strategies and prompts to make a habit of creating safety and belonging in the workplace.

*Bonus Options—Organizational leaders often opt to have the final event during the month of June, to celebrate Pride. Leaders ask us to assist them in creating a holistic Day of Understanding, with the idea that all identities are intersectional. They have the option of adding additional workshops taught by multiple facilitators, including:

  • Managing the Motherload: 4 Ways to Manage The Mental Load of Motherhood

  • Self-Compassion: The Catalyst to Greater Social Impact

So many key leaders and employees are struggling to sustain a positive impact for the work, teams, and clients they care about without sacrificing their own well-being in the process.  This workshop will show these valuable changemakers how to honor their own self-compassion and wellbeing so they can continue to bring sustainable compassion and justice to their work.

  • It’s Not Burnout; It’s Betrayal - A New Paradigm to Increase Authenticity & Wellbeing

While many people think of betrayal as infidelity or dishonesty, for many professionals, betrayal is the result of chronic unmet expectations such as not receiving equal pay for equal work, receiving a promotion (but not the support to succeed after it), or the realization that one has spent their life serving a dream that was not their own, which robs them of their zest, voice, and ability to live into the fullest expression of their potential.

Whether these three events feel like the perfect fit for your organization, or you recognize that some customization would need to take place to find the right fit for you and your employees, here is your next step: schedule a call for us to discuss.

Employees are waiting for you to put your money where your mouth is

Policies and procedures do not create company culture.  Lived experiences like these actually move the needle in supporting employees' psychological safety, ability to advocate for themselves and those around them. This is where trust and safety is truly built.

In these trainings, attendees will:

  • Have space to ask to ask the awkward questions

  • Build knowledge of current population trends with an eye on how to prepare

  • Increase communication skills with team members

  • Improve in giving and receiving feedback, as well as build confidence in engaging in intimidating conversations

  • Experiencing a safe space for people to practice speaking up for themselves and the marginalized voices they want to amplify

  • Increase in trust and engagement in order to make every day at work even more fulfilling and build resilience to burnout
